I'm very new to Freemasonry. Thought about it for years, but always assumed that you had to be invited. Spoke to my son, Joe, on my last trip to the UK. He told me that one of the best things he'd ever done was to join the craft and that it would be good for me too. Still wasn't sure how to go about asking someone, so contacted my local GL (Western Australia) - they were very helpful. They put me in touch with my local Lodge and the Lodge Secretary told me that one of my neighbours would be delighted to be my proposer. Then one of my golfing buddies asked me why I hadn't asked him! The line of brethren queuing up to shake my hand after my initiation was quite something. Still lost for words about my initiation, but slowly making sense of it all.

Yours Fraternally

David

Certainly we live a small world and Freemasonry makes it it even smaller!

Dave,
You'll never be a stranger in a foreign land now.
Glad you decided to take the first step (and that it was with your left foot Laughing )

Last year my son made me very proud of him, askin' to be One,
but he asked to be in my Lodge.
So, in my Lodge there are now, 4 pairs fathers and sons as brothers.
Isn't it marvellous?

Marvellous indeed!

There are a number of father / sons in my Lodge. My son is IG in the Lodge, and was tonight elected as 1st Principal in the RA Chapter! (I will be installing him in September)

One family in my Lodge has had 4 generations with the same name!

Joe,

hurry, haste, hastiness, rush, urgency.

Festina lente, go on slowly. Think about the turtle. We do not build for tomorrow, but for the eternity.

CM,
I totally agree with that masonry is not a race to a known destination - to hurry ensures you'll probably never get there.
My question was how does it relate to this thread?
I have been known to miss the most obvious things, so I was just trying to understand the relevance given the previous posts!
Kind rgds
